Hartsyard Manhattan – Bacon-infused Jack Daniel’s, sweet vermouth, bitters, maple syrup ($18)
Overall I thought Hartsyard was not bad. Apart from the chicken being a real let down (and it was the sole draw card for us), I enjoyed the other dishes and I would go on another occasion to sample what else they have on offer, particularly the pulled pork and poutine. I think the Mongolian is less keen though – he had such high expectations for the fried chicken and for that to be shattered, he’s lost all hope in the establishment. He also wasn’t as taken by the other dishes as me, so he has the same sentiment for Hartsyard as for Cho Cho San – it all sounds and looks amazing, but it tastes pretty lackluster.
