Ananas Bar and Restaurant

Ananas was on a list of must try restaurants in the SMH. Walking in, it was visually striking with its Parisian & 1920s decor, complimented by the dim, romantic (pinapple) lights. A perfect place for a date.

Unfortunately on this occasion it wasn’t a romantic date for me, but anyways….

The overall consensus was the food was just ok, but the desserts was spectacular! There were 7 of us sharing about 6 dishes, two of which (being the salad and oysters) were tiny), so we were all left unsatiated. I myself could have done with another main all to myself. To make up for the lack of food food, we each had a dessert to ourselves, and everyone was very happy with that distribution.

Baby beetroot salad – now that I reflect on the meal, it looks a bit out of place admist the rest of the dishes. It stands out with its fine dining, futuresque presentation.

navarin of braised lamb shoulder, roasted brest, gremolata crumbed brain. Yes that's just not brain in name, but actual sheep/lamb brain! We ordered this dish partly for the novelty of eating brain. It's the falafel-looking thing at the top and has a creamy sort of texture inside, like the inside of a sausage if it wasn't cooked. The lamb shoulder was well cooked and very tender.

Whole flounder, lemon caper butter, pommes purée This was my favourite dish of the night. The fish was simply cooked and you could taste its natural flavour, which was complimented by the rich and creamy potato puree underneath
